Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire resides in a quiet area of Montreal Island called West Island. This part of Montreal is known as the West Island has a lot of different communities. People who have never heard of it often confuse it with an island that is west-facing. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island. But it's not the case. Brugel grew to be a young woman within Courtice Ontario just outside Oshawa. When she was a child, she wanted to be a performer but an unexpected growth spurt made it impossible. In an article published in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6'1 inch. Once I was bigger than any male partner, I stopped. Many former dancers turn to acting, and in the instance of Brugel, it was a suggestion from her drama teacher. The teacher recommended that she try out for a school production. She auditioned and eventually got the leading role of Anne of Green Gables. She was awarded a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program which she completed from the program in 2000, earning a degree of Bachelor's in Fine Arts. Since then, Brugel has been performing in over 60 plays, smaller and large. Most notable was when she landed the role of Rita in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel appeared only on rare occasions in the first season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the sole Canadian actor.
